Fair Use

When using work under the Fair Use policy you are able to use up to 10% of the work depending on what format it is. With text and data you can use up to 1000 words of an essay, 250 words of a poem, or 2500 fields from a database. The 10% rule always overdoes the other exceptions, therefore if you want to 100 words of an essay but 1000 words is over 10% than you cannot use 1000 words. For plays and TV shows, etc. you can use up to three minutes of the show or you can purchase the rights to a live performance. The 10% rule still applies to all forms of media. If you download something from the internet you have to either cite the source, or post a link to the download. The purpose of creating a works cited page is to give credit to the sources in which you gained your information from. If you do not create a works cited page than it is considered plagiarism and is illegal.
