Fair Use

When using work under the Fair Use policy you are able to use up to 10% of the work depending on what format it is. With text and data you can use up to 1000 words of an essay, 250 words of a poem, or 2500 fields from a database. The 10% rule always overdoes the other exceptions, therefore if you want to 100 words of an essay but 1000 words is over 10% than you cannot use 1000 words. For plays and TV shows, etc. you can use up to three minutes of the show or you can purchase the rights to a live performance. The 10% rule still applies to all forms of media. If you download something from the internet you have to either cite the source, or post a link to the download. The purpose of creating a works cited page is to give credit to the sources in which you gained your information from. If you do not create a works cited page than it is considered plagiarism and is illegal.

Reflection on Flickr

With a site like Flick you can search for photos without having to worry about getting in trouble with copyright laws. Having millions of photos of anything you can imagine at your disposal is a convenience to those who use photos for reports or articles. If you were to search for photos on Google images to find a photo to use you would have to worry about finding the source and correctly citing it. When you use Flickr you are open to a wide range of possibilities with the photos you use because of the creative commons.

Relfection

After Deputy Kupp's presentation I have noticed many weaknesses in what I o online. Some of my passwords are the same, and the websites i visit are not always the safest. From now on I will create more secure passwords to ensure my account's security and my personal privacy. I will also check reviews of the websites I visit before purchasing something or making an account. After our unit on identity I realized there are also weaknesses in my security. When i make accounts i will pay better attention to what information I am putting out there and when I am purchasing something I will verify the website's security. If I am purchasing something at the store I will pay attention to my surroundings and the people i am handing my information to. These units have helped me realize the weaknesses in my personal security and I have learned to what I actions I should take to ensure my privacy.

RSS Assingment

1.      RSS stands for really simple syndication.
2.      An RSS feed works when you subscribe to the website that you want and it automatically updates your feed with the website’s updates.
3.      Two benefits of using an RSS feed are, it is quicker to see what is new than to check each website individually, and you can get updates from multiple websites at a time without having to visit them all.
4.      RSS feeds, Feed reader, and Aggregator all display certain information from other websites onto other websites. RSS feeds use a “hub” website that allows you to subscribe to websites and receive their updates. Feed reader is a downloadable program that gathers information from other websites. An aggregator is freeware software that gathers selected information from other websites.
5.      Google reader is a Google RSS product.
6.      In order to sign up for an RSS feed you have to make an account on a RSS feed reader.
7.      Signing up for an RSS feed is free.

New Technology

For thousands of years people have wanted to fly like birds without the aid of an engine or other type of mechanical device. Fortunately that idea is not that far away. In National Geographic's Article titled "If only we had wings". In this article the author highlights the possibility of personal flight and how close we are to accomplishing it. The article describes the evolution and dream of personal flight all the way back to Leonardo da Vinci. He spent mos of his life studying birds ad how they are able to fly.  It took three hundred years to develop the first type of hang glider. This allowed people to use a cliff or steep slope to gain enough speed and become air-born. Recently, in Sweden, aerospace engineers have developed a way to accomplish unaided flight by strapping a carbon fiber wing to someone's back and propelling it with small jet engines. This is limited because of the amount of fuel a person can carry. In 2010 NASA released a one-third scale model of their "Puffin", personal aircraft. The aircraft is VTOL capable and seats one person. Testing is still being done on the prototype. As for now, we are closer to the idea of un-aided flight than you might think.

Christmas Break

My Christmas break was very relaxing and enjoyable. On Christmas Eve my Aunt, Uncle, Cousins, and my Grandma from my Dad's side of the family all came over for dinner. On Christmas day we drove down to Findlay to Have Christmas dinner with my Grandma, Aunts and Uncles, and my cousin on my Mom's side of the family. On Monday and Tuesday I went running with some people from my team for indoor track conditioning.
